An EV Charger: Your Next Investment

21st November 2022

If you’re one of the increasing number of drivers in the UK who has switched to driving an electric vehicle, you’ll know that having a reliable way to keep it charged and ready to drive is crucial. While it’s possible to buy a charger which simply plugs into a standard 240 volt power outlet, this is a rudimentary solution which doesn’t match up to the advanced and smart tech within your EV. This is just one of the many reasons why you need to invest in an EV Charger.

Smart EV Charger Tech

Our EV chargers from UK brand, Zappi, do so much more than merely charge the batteries in your car. Their design incorporates advanced features that optimise your energy usage and work with you to provide the most efficient charging experience possible. Here’s a rundown of our favourite features:

Charging from Home Generators

Most conventional EV Charger solutions take power exclusively from the national grid, supplied by utility companies. That power is usually generated by burning fossil fuels which release harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, as well as require transport to the power station, and removal of the waste such as ash. As you can imagine, this type of energy leaves a huge carbon footprint which may leave you wondering just how green and environmentally friendly your electric vehicle really is.

This isn’t the case with our Zappi EV Chargers. These clever devices can actually take power from energy generated from any home setup such as a solar photovoltaic array or a wind turbine- meaning your electric vehicle is running on pure, clean, sustainable energy. Of course, you can still use power from the grid if you need to - which brings us on to:

Optimising Timers

Although our Zappi chargers can take energy that you generate at home through a solar array or wind turbine, the source of power (i.e. sunshine or wind) isn’t always dependable in the UK so you’ll be relieved to know that you can still take power from the national grid. To help you minimise your energy costs though, our Zappi chargers have helpful timers built in, which you can set to correspond with when the electricity is supplied at its cheapest - thus reducing the cost to charge your EV as far as possible.

App Support

No new technology these days is complete without an app that provides control from your mobile device. Our Zappi EV charger systems are no exception. When bound to their helpful app available for Android, Apple, and all other devices, you can access and control your EV charging system from anywhere in the world. You can even monitor your energy import and export data through the integrated graphs and visuals.

Reasons You’ll Love Zappi

Being the UK’s first and only EV charger capable of utilising power generated from solar isn’t the only reason to love Zappi. Here’s our favourite features and benefits of the Zappi.

Smart Security

The Zappi EV charger features a 5- digit PIN-code lock function, meaning you’re protected against unauthorised users accessing your myenergi app, charging their vehicle without permission or tampering with your unit.

Versatile Infrastructure Support

You can choose between a 7kW or 22kW (3-phase) unit, meaning your EV charger can be installed at virtually any premises.

Universal socket, or with a 6.5 metre tethered Type 1 or 2 cable

If you own an electric vehicle, or are planning on buying one, you’ll know that the charging ports and connectors are not standardised in the way that say a domestic 240 socket or even a petrol filler on a conventional car is. Fortunately, this has been accounted for and the Zappi EV Charger is available with a variety of socket and plug types to match your EV.

Flexible Charging Modes

Your charging requirements and needs won’t always be the same. The Zappi EV Charger is programmed with three charging modes: Eco, Eco+ and Fast. These modes allow you to set the balance between power taken from your solar array and from the grid, as well as the speed of charging.

Economy Tariff Sensing

At particular hours of the day, energy supplied by the grid is charged at a lower rate. The ‘boost timer’ feature allows you to set when to prioritise charging in order to take advantage of these lower tariffs - automatically keeping your charging costs down.

Safety Guaranteed

Zappi is the only EV Charger with Open PEN fault detection built into the design. This means additional earth rods aren’t required, resulting in a far more straight forward installation.

Help on Hand

Should you ever have any questions, or need advice regarding your EV charger, Zappi is bolstered by a comprehensive, UK based customer support team who are always keen to help wherever they can.

Unobtrusive Design

No-one wants their house or driveway to look like a garage forecourt. As an electric vehicle owner you’ll be relieved then that the Zappi charger measures a subtle 439 x 282 x 122mm and, while needing to be permanently fixed, can be tucked away out of sight easily.

Quality, Guaranteed

Zappi comes with a three year warranty, giving you peace of mind that you’re not going to be stuck without a charger. Registering is easy and carried out through the dedicated app.

What Are You Waiting For?

If you already own an electric vehicle, the need for a reliable EV charger is crucial. But the attraction to a Zappi charger doesn’t stop there; due to the restrictions on vehicles being built with combustion engines, the early cessation of manufacturers building vehicles with combustion engines, and the ever growing ease of purchasing or leasing an electric vehicle it just makes sense to install an EV charger now and be ready for when you need it. To find out how you can get charging with Zappi, head to our product or contact pages now.

When you’re ready to take a drive, one thing’s for sure- it won’t be your Zappi EV Charger that you’re waiting for.
